II-VI Quantum Dots

  • Programme type: Research
  • Study location: Edinburgh

CdSe quantum dots grown by self-assembly techniques on MgS epitaxial layers show remarkable optical properties since there is negligible intermixing between the layers and the dot formation through the development of the monolayer growth is clearly observed. The dot density and shape can be estimated from Atomic Force Microscopy. Photo-luminescence from single quantum dots has been observed by using nano-optical techniques, and currently the formation of bi-excitons with very large binding energies is being investigated.
