Overview
This research Masters degree provides the opportunity to investigate the state of the art in an advanced topic in Computer Science and develop an innovative solution to one of its challenges. A student is guided in this by a primary and secondary research supervisor.
Students begin by studying 4 relevant courses offered on our MSc programmes, develop a Masters class in a related topic area and undertake two research project preparation courses. Then they pursue their research project full-time and write it up in a thesis of between 20000 and 30000 words.

Entry requirements
Admission to the programme requires an excellent MSc or BSc (honours) in Computer Science or a closely related area.
English language requirements
If your first language is not English, or your first degree was not taught in English, we’ll need to see evidence of your English language ability. The minimum requirement for English language is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. We offer a range of English language courses to help you meet the English language requirement prior to starting your masters programme:
- 2 semesters English (for IELTS of 4.5-5.0);
- 12 weeks English (for IELTS of 5.5);
- 6 weeks English (for IELTS 5.5*-6.0). (*minimum 5.5 reading and writing)
