Nano-Optics
Overview
The nano-optics group is performing optical experiments with a high spatial and spectral resolution, in particular on samples containing quantum dots. The thrust of the work is to perform detailed spectroscopy experiments on individual quantum dots in order to remove the inhomogeneous broadening in ensemble experiments. Ill-V samples are provided for these experiments by collaborators in continental Europe and the US. Part of the work involves designing and building the instrumentation; the group already has a home-built confocal microscope for applications at low temperature and high magnetic field and further refinements are planned. The group also has interests in applying the techniques of nano-optics to design devices.English language requirements
If your first language is not English, or your first degree was not taught in English, we’ll need to see evidence of your English language ability. The minimum requirement for English language is IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. We offer a range of English language courses to help you meet the English language requirement prior to starting your masters programme:
- 2 semesters English (for IELTS of 4.5-5.0);
- 12 weeks English (for IELTS of 5.5);
- 6 weeks English (for IELTS 5.5*-6.0). (*minimum 5.5 reading and writing)
