Arabic-English Translation And Computer-Assisted Translation Tools MSc/Diploma/Certificate
Duration
One -year programmeMSc - 12 months full-time; PGDip - 9 months full-time
Two-year programme (with Integrated English)
MSc - 24 months full-time; PGDip - 21 months full-time
Both programmes commence in September each year.
Overview
The programme is offered full-time and is designed to provide students with the specialist training required to work as a professional translator in a variety of professional contexts. Students work in both directions between Arabic and English and follow core subjects covering:- Translating
- Computer-Assisted Translation Tools
- Localisation and Technical Writing
- Translation and Interpreting Studies
- International Politics and Organisations
- MSc Dissertation.
Students benefit from excellent facilities for interpreting and translating, including state-of-the-art interpreting and language laboratories, digital resources for interpreting, and a range of Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) software packages.
Entry Requirements
Native / near-native command of English plus native / near-native command of Arabic, and a good degree or equivalent in a relevant language subject or cognate area.
Applicants who do not have a sufficient level of intercultural skills or sufficient experience in academic writing in the British context may be admitted to the two-year programme, in which the first year is spent studying academic English and background courses for translating and interpreting.
