Reservoir Description And Simulation
Overview
Successful exploitation of oil and gas reserves depends upon a good understanding and an accurate description of the reservoir. A knowledge of how reservoir properties vary in space throughout the reservoir will impact development and performance. Research in this area has therefore concentrated on establishing the range of flow-rock physics/rock structure behaviour which can be expected in petroleum reservoirs.This area of research is one of the largest in Petroleum Engineering with major industry consortia-funded projects. It is concerned with the collection of geometrical and petrophysical data from outcrops around the world, subsurface petrophysical data collection strategies, upscaling flow properties and geological modelling, quantification of uncertainty in reservoir performance prediction, applications of geomechanical principles, carbonate reservoirs, and geophysical imaging and monitoring.
These activities provide us with a powerful multidisciplinary research team. This team also tackles field development problems in reservoirs around the world in an applied research environment. Strong links have been developed with the other research groups within Petroleum Engineering to provide realistic numerical models for engineering studies. The group has active co-operative research links with other UK, European and US universities.
As well as addressing reservoir problems, the group is also active in basin modelling – providing geo-engineering solutions to petroleum migration and entrapment challenges.
English language requirements
If your first language is not English, or your first degree was not taught in English, we’ll need to see evidence of your English language ability. The minimum requirement for English language is IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. We offer a range of English language courses to help you meet the English language requirement prior to starting your masters programme:
- 2 semesters English (for IELTS of 4.5-5.0);
- 12 weeks English (for IELTS of 5.5);
- 6 weeks English (for IELTS 5.5*-6.0). (*minimum 5.5 reading and writing)
